Tell your U.S. senators: Let us fix our stuff. Pass the Fair Repair Act.
The tech industry’s monopoly on the repair of electronic devices costs people money and harms the planet by generating mountains of electronic waste. The bipartisan Fair Repair Act would help by requiring manufacturers to provide access to the parts, tools and information needed to fix our own stuff.
This bill comes at a perfect time for the Right to Fair Repair movement -- we’ve been gaining momentum with dozens of states taking action, an executive order from President Biden, and growing interest on Capitol Hill.
But the opposition is out in full force: Lobbyists representing the major manufacturers are spending big to keep the Fair Repair Act from passing. Will you add your name right now to show Congress that Americans want the Right to Fair Repair?
-
Tell Congress: Pass the Comprehensive CREDIT Act
Most people who reach out to credit bureaus to address an error have a less than 2% chance of getting it fixed.
The credit bureaus that collect, store and share our data should be accountable to us, not the companies that use them to access our credit information.
Tell your U.S. representative to protect your credit and pass the Comprehensive CREDIT Act today.
-
Tell the U.S. Senate: Pass the Agriculture Right to Repair Act
Broken farm equipment can threaten an entire harvest. That’s bad news for the farmer -- and for all the people who rely on their crops for food.
Yet repair restrictions on crucial farm equipment are forcing farmers to take machinery like tractors to a limited number of authorized repair shops, which can take weeks and cost a fortune. We can't let these restrictions hamstring our country's farmers.
Luckily, this problem has an easy fix: Give farmers the right to fair repair. Just recently, U.S. Sen. Jon Tester (Mont.) introduced the Agriculture Right to Repair Act -- one of our best chances yet to protect farmers from monopolies on repair. We all rely on our farmers, and it’s time we give them the help they need. That’s why I urge you to pass the Agriculture Right to Repair Act.
-
Tell Congress: Stop the debt trap
High-cost lenders, selling predatory loans often with triple-digit interest rates, set up shop wherever they feel they can lure consumers into the debt trap that these loans create.
Appallingly, they often specifically target veterans.
Nothing about this practice is right or fair -- and a bipartisan group of federal lawmakers agree. They’ve introduced the Veterans and Consumers Fair Credit Act (VCFCA) to put a cap on consumer loan interest rates.
For all consumers, and especially for our veterans, we can’t miss this chance to stop the debt trap. Urge your U.S. House representative to pass this crucial bill today.
-
Tell Congress: Close this loophole in the laws that protect our democracy
State and local ballot initiatives are the people's way of making laws where lawmakers have failed. They may not always be front-page news like candidate elections might be, but they’re just as important to ensuring that our democracy is as strong, fair and participatory as possible.
That’s why the current gap in federal law that leaves ballot initiatives vulnerable to illicit foreign contributions is so alarming. For our democracy to thrive, it’s just as important to prohibit foreign influence in this direct lawmaking process as it is in choosing our lawmakers.
Send an urgent message today telling your U.S. House representative to support the Stop Foreign Funds in Elections Act and protect our democracy from foreign influence.
-
Tell the Department of Transportation: People deserve their money back
Airlines have yet to refund $10 billion of customers' money from flights canceled due to COVID-19. Instead of handing out refunds, airlines offered travel credit -- letting them pocket billions of dollars of customers' cash. People deserve their money back.
I’m writing to urge the Department of Transportation to ensure that airlines can never again deceptively steer consumers towards ticket vouchers when they have a right to a full refund because of airline-initiated flight cancellations.
In addition, the DOT must ensure that consumers holding non-refundable tickets who canceled travel plans because they chose not to fly during the pandemic due to their doctor's recommendation, local, state or federal health regulations, or other medical guidance, be provided refunds if they cannot or do not want to use the voucher they were given.
-
Tell the Senate to protect consumers
Right now, high-cost payday lenders are allowed to give loans with triple-digit interest rates that result in sums of up to three times the amount of the original loan. Often, these lenders will target people earning small but steady paychecks, including veterans and active-duty military service members.
The Veterans and Consumers Fair Credit Act (VCFCA) would cap the interest rates for these loans at 36%, protecting all Americans from these predatory lending practices.
Tell your senators to protect consumers and back the VCFCA.
-
Add your name: Tell regulators we need strong protections from surprise medical bills
Secretary Becerra:
The federal No Surprises Act is Americans’ best defense against unfair surprise medical bills -- but it’s up to your agency to set strong rules to enforce that new law.
One in 5 Americans who visit an emergency room or have surgery get stuck with a surprise medical bill -- even if they made sure to go to a hospital in their insurance network. These surprise bills can amount to hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Americans pay enough for health care already. We shouldn't be burdened with out-of-network charges we can't avoid. And to keep costs down for everyone, payments to providers shouldn’t be inflated -- rather, they should be based only on local average in-network rates. I urge you to ensure federal regulators close loopholes in the No Surprises Act and make sure Americans are fully protected from surprise medical bills.
-
Tell airlines: Refund consumers who canceled flights due to COVID-19
Over the past year and a half, millions of Americans have been prevented from flying because of government restrictions, public health notices, or serious medical conditions that made flying during the pandemic unsafe. It's simply not fair that airlines haven't offered refunds to all customers affected by the COVID-19 -- especially now, with the Delta variant surging.
Consumers instead have gotten vouchers for future flights, many of which will expire at the end of this year, forcing Americans to watch their hard-earned money evaporate due to circumstances entirely out of their control.
I urge you to give full refunds to all customers who canceled flights due to COVID-19 before their vouchers expire.
-
Tell the Senate: Support our right to fair repair
When manufacturers make items like smartphones, printers and even tractors unnecessarily inconvenient, costly or impossible to repair, they put a strain on everything from our pocketbooks to our planet.
This practice creates vast amounts of unnecessary electronic waste, depletes our planet’s natural resources, and makes customers pay when they don’t need to.
We should be able to get our own things fixed. Tell your senators today to support our right to fair repair.
-
Tell your representative to support the Overdraft Protection Act
Every year, banks rake in billions on predatory overdraft fees.
When customers make a purchase that exceeds the funds in their checking account, banks use opaque rules and unfair charging practices to fine them. These unfair practices have allowed banks to collect more than $11 billion every year from charges that disproportionately harm low-income and vulnerable communities.
Customers deserve transparency and fair banking practices. Tell your U.S. representative to ensure they get it -- tell them to support the Overdraft Protection Act.
-
Tell your U.S. representative: Support the Digital Fair Repair Act
In 2019, the U.S. produced 6.9 million metric tons of electronic waste -- roughly the equivalent of 38,000 blue whales.
In part, this is a crisis manufactured by tech companies, who make it unnecessarily difficult to repair their gadgets, encouraging customers to buy new and trash the old. We own our electronics, and we should be able to get them fixed -- and a new bill in Congress could make that happen.
Tell your U.S. representative today to support the Digital Fair Repair Act.
-
Tell Congress: Help make universal broadband a reality
Work, school, paying bills, applying for jobs, seeing the doctor -- no matter how we use it, the internet is an essential utility in the 21st century.
But too many Americans are forced offline because of inadequate access to broadband. The Biden administration's bipartisan plan to fund nationwide broadband is a commonsense way to close this digital divide.
Will you send a message asking your U.S. representative to support universal broadband in our country?
-
Tell your U.S. representative: Corporate wrongdoing shouldn’t be a tax write-off
Our tax laws allow companies to count as a “loss” any payments they make as restitution to those harmed by their actions. That means that, come tax time, those restitution payments make the company eligible for a tax refund.
We're calling on Congress to pass legislation compelling the Internal Revenue Service to revise the rule allowing companies to claim tax write-offs for money paid in restitution.
-
Tell your state representative: We need our right to fair repair
The world’s ballooning e-waste problem is an avoidable crisis. When manufacturers like Apple make their electronics unnecessarily difficult to repair, they encourage consumers to buy brand new gadgets and toss their old ones in a landfill.
If we could fix and reuse our own stuff, we could cut down on this unnecessary e-waste. That’s why we need you to tell your state representative to protect our right to repair the things we own.
-
Tell your senators: Confirm Rohit Chopra as Consumer Bureau director
The Biden administration has nominated Rohit Chopra, a true champion for consumers, to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Chopra helped build the Consumer Bureau from the ground up in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, and if confirmed, he would revitalize the bureau that Trump had left toothless.
Recognizing the impending scrutiny banks are about to face, financial interests are highly motivated to block Chopra’s confirmation. That’s why we’re equally motivated to get him through the door.
We need every vote we can get. Tell your senators: We need Rohit Chopra at the CFPB.
-
Tell Amazon: We shouldn’t have to tolerate price gouging -- especially during a pandemic
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos:
In December, a survey of 750 products sold on Amazon across 15 different categories revealed that, compared to pre-pandemic costs, more than half of the listing prices increased by 20 percent or more, and 136 at least doubled in price.
These price hikes are taking advantage of consumers and creating barriers to product access, during a pandemic where many of those products are essential to families’ health and safety.
Amazon must do everything possible to ensure that all essential products on its site are fairly priced. We ask you to strictly enforce your Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy and remove all cases of excessively priced essentials.
-
Tell your senators: Pass the Critical Medical Infrastructure Right-to-Repair Act.
When lifesaving medical equipment breaks down, hospital technicians need to be able to fix it quickly -- but, too often, manufacturer restrictions keep them from doing so. Tell your senators: Pass the Critical Medical Infrastructure Right-to-Repair Act.
-
Tell Congress: Medical repair restrictions are putting lives at risk
Hospital technicians are being restricted from repairing the medical equipment that helps them save lives -- and it’s causing delays in patient treatment.
There’s no reason that trained technicians should have to wait for a manufacturer to service a piece of potentially lifesaving equipment that they’re qualified to fix themselves, especially in the midst of the current nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases.
We need to eliminate these unnecessary restrictions on medical device repair so that hospitals can focus on saving lives. Take action today by telling your U.S. representative to support medical right to repair legislation in the next coronavirus relief package. -
Our Neighborhood Vote Project needs you!
Can you join us?
We are mobilizing 60,000 people who don’t always vote, letting each of them know that we need them to cast their ballots in the 2020 election. We are focused on some of the closest races in the state, where the outcome will make a difference in how Colorado and our country tackle issues like COVID and our economy. The margins of victory in these races are expected to be small, so neighbors turning out neighbors who might not otherwise vote could be a key part of the final outcome.
In addition to supporting Joe Biden for President and John Hickenlooper for Senate, we are mobilizing voters in key races. For example:
- Congressional District 3, where Diane Mitsch Bush is virtually tied with her Republican opponent. Political watchers like 538 and Cook Political Report are calling it a toss up. It could go either way.
- In 2018, State Rep. Brianna Titone won after her race nearly went into a recount. She claimed victory by a mere 439 votes.
- In State House District 38, Republican Susan Beckman held on to her seat in 2018 by fewer than 400 votes. Now we are working to turnout voters in favor of Army veteran David Ortiz who, with your help, has a real shot at winning.
And those are only a few examples. Turning out voters in these closely contested regions of Colorado will help make sure Colorado says no to four more years of Donald Trump, and will also make sure we are able to win local races that will shape Colorado’s policies going forwards.
Candidates we will be speaking to voters about:
Joe Biden & Kamala Harris for President & Vice President -- John Hickenlooper for U.S. Senate -- Rep. Jason Crow for Congressional District 6 -- Diane Mitsch Bush for Congressional District 3 -- Tony Exum (HD17) -- Mary Parker (HD22) -- Lisa Cutter (HD25) -- Brianna Titone (HD27) -- Lindsey Daugherty (HD29) -- Dafna Michaelson Jenet (HD30) -- Tom Sullivan (HD37) -- David Ortiz (HD38) -- Jennifer Mitkowski (HD43) -- Daneya Esgar (HD46) -- Bri Buentello (HD47) -- Barbara McLachlan (HD59) -- Karl Hanlon (SD08) -- Rachel Zenzinger (SD19) -- Paula Dickerson (SD25) -- Jeff Bridges (SD26) -- Chris Kolker (SD27)

Tell the FDA to keep contaminated hand sanitizers off store shelves
We rely on hand sanitizers to keep us healthy; we shouldn't have to worry that they will make us sick. Join us in calling on the FDA to keep contaminated hand sanitizers off store shelves.
-
Tell your state representative: Support the Right to Fair Repair
Manufacturers of electronic devices make it unnecessarily difficult for us to repair the items we own, and the result is increased costs for us as we’re forced to replace devices we can’t fix -- as well as tons and tons of dangerous electronic waste.
Join us in calling on legislators in your state to support the Right to Fair Repair.
-
Tell Congress: Help consumers keep their credit safe during the COVID-19 crisis
As the dual public health and economic crises caused by the COVID-19 pandemic rage on, American consumers are facing unprecedented financial vulnerability. If someone chooses to pay for food and other essentials instead of paying credit card bills on time, or simply encounters a mistake on their credit report, credit agencies shouldn’t be allowed to penalize them for it.
That’s why we’re calling for federal legislation to ban negative credit reporting during the COVID-19 crisis. Send a message to your senators today.
-
Tell Google: Lift the ban on independent repair ads
We need to have options when it comes to repairing our devices -- it saves us money and reduces electronic waste. But Google doesn’t allow independent repair shops to advertise on its search engine, making those options harder for us to access.
Tell Google to end its ban on independent repair companies.

Shut down, start over, do it right
Add your name to stand with the hundreds of health professionals who have joined Fair Share in calling for the country to hit the reset button.
Of all the nations in the world, we've had the most deaths from COVID-19 -- almost 150,000. At the same time, we're in the midst of "reopening our economy," exposing more and more people to coronavirus and watching numbers of cases -- and deaths -- skyrocket.
Economists have gone on record saying that the only way to "restore the economy is to address the pandemic itself." Public health professionals have made clear that even after we've contained the virus by staying at home, in order to reopen American cities and towns safely, we'll need the testing capacity, PPE, and medical supplies to keep it contained.
We need to shut down, start over, and do it right. -
Tell the CFPB to protect people from debt collection harassment
Debt collection companies are harassing thousands of people across the country who are struggling during the current economic and public health crisis. It’s time for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to use its authority to rein in these abusive practices.
-
Tell your senators: It’s time to end anonymous companies
Thanks to loopholes in our law, bad actors can easily stash money in anonymous companies formed in the U.S. These “shell companies” are useful for laundering money for illegal opioid dealers or disguising a criminal operation.
Unfortunately, these companies are just as good at helping criminals avoid detection as they are at helping corporations reduce their tax bills -- which has made reform difficult. Thankfully, that’s changing, and this session, the fight to put an end to anonymous shell companies has a lot of momentum.
Urge your senators to pass bipartisan legislation ending the use of anonymous companies in the U.S. -
Tell your governor: For a fair and safe election, we need vote-by-mail
To keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable among us, we need to keep our distance. This November, we don’t have to ask voters to choose between risking their health and giving up their say in our democracy.
States can ensure this year’s election is safe, free and fair by enacting universal vote-by-mail. Send a message to your governor today. -
Tell Amazon: Keep prices fair during the COVID-19 crisis
Cases of COVID-19 have spiked worldwide, and the World Health Organization has declared the disease a pandemic. As demand for supplies like hand sanitizer has increased, prices on Amazon have spiked to ludicrous levels.
Amazon is the world’s largest marketplace. In emergency situations like this one, it should be keeping prices fair and stopping price gougers before they take advantage of people. Tell Amazon to stop the price gouging before it happens. -
End predatory lending: Pass the Veterans and Consumers Fair Credit Act
Each year, millions of Americans take out high-interest payday loans to cover short-term expenses when they have no other options left. And each year, millions get trapped in debt by these loans’ stratospheric interest rates, which average around 400 percent.
Proposed legislation -- the Veterans and Consumers Fair Credit Act (VCFCA) -- would cap consumer loan interest rates at 36 percent, something we already do in a dozen states and for service members. We know this would prevent crushing debt traps, but we also know the payday loan industry is pulling out all the stops to try and prevent the bill’s passage.
That’s why we need your voice. Tell your representative: Pass the VCFCA and protect Americans in need. -
Tell your senators: Protect our credit
After numerous security breaches at major corporations like Equifax and Capital One, hundreds of millions of Americans have had their financial data compromised. You didn’t agree to have this data collected -- you shouldn’t have to worry about it being used to steal your identity.
Tell your senators to support the Consumer Credit Control Act to help prevent identity theft by freezing your credit reports by default, free of cost.
-
Tell your governor to support our right to fair repair
Every day, we throw away hundreds of thousands of expensive, resource-intensive phones -- in part because of unnecessary obstacles to repair put up by manufacturers.
That's why we're calling on governors to support legislation that will make it easier for people to repair their devices so that we spend less and waste less. -
Defend net neutrality
The internet should be a fair playing field for all ideas. That’s why net neutrality is so important: Without it, the internet will be under the control of powerful telephone and cable company gatekeepers.
A federal court of appeals upheld the Trump administration’s repeal of federal net neutrality protections. But, it also said that states and local governments can write their own rules. Call on your governor to pass net neutrality legislation now. -
Tell the FTC to investigate deceptive phone apps

Tell your senators to protect our data today
Two years ago, Equifax lost the financial information of 147 million Americans in a major data breach. Years later, we still haven’t done enough to hold Equifax accountable or to prevent a similar breach from happening again.

Tell the FTC: Give us the right to fair repair
-
Tell your representative to give students a fair shot
Every college student deserves a fair shot.

Price gouging isn’t acceptable. It’s time to pass fair repair laws.
When it comes to our electronics, we should have the right to repair them when they break for a fair price at any repair shop -- not be price gouged by the manufacturers. -
Act today: Stand up for fair repair laws
Batteries in our discarded cell phones are literally catching fire because of barriers to recycling.
It simply isn’t fair to customers that manufacturers would make phones that can't be recycled or fixed by a third-party small business.

We still need to keep Wall Street in check
The Consumer Bureau has a critical job to do: making sure financial institutions play by the rules so we don’t have another Great Recession. Remind its current director that we still need the agency to keep Wall Street in check.
-
Tell CFPB Acting Director Mick Mulvaney: We need the Consumer Bureau to make sure financial companies play by the rules.
Companies accused of not playing by the rules shouldn’t get a “discount” from the watchdog on Wall Street charged with holding them accountable. Tell the Consumer Bureau: Stop giving discounts on fines to corporate wrongdoers, and instead focus on making sure financial companies play by the rules.

Tell Your Senators: Oppose Any Efforts To Weaken The Consumer Bureau
Mick Mulvaney -- leader of the nation’s top Wall Street watchdog -- is asking lobbyists to help him strip the agency of any meaningful authority to protect Americans from financial abuse. Lobbyists have sway, but our elected leaders are still accountable to the people they represent.
Tell your senators today: Oppose any efforts to weaken the Consumer Bureau. -

We should be able to repair the stuff we own. That’s why we’re working to pass right to repair legislation in states across the country. It’s the fair and right thing to do.
-
Make your voice heard: Tell your legislators that we need a strong and independent Consumer Bureau
The agency created to protect Americans from financial scams and tricks is being threatened in Congress. Acting Director Mick Mulvaney is asking our legislators to take away the Consumer Bureau’s independence and make it harder for the agency to do its job of keeping Wall Street in check.
Act now: Urge your legislators to defend the Consumer Bureau today. -
Tell Congress: Act to End Anonymous Companies Now
With the rise of synthetic opioids, it’s time to redouble our efforts to end the anonymous companies that are fueling this criminal enterprise and others.
Tell Congress that the time to act to end anonymous companies is now. -
Call on your legislators to support the bill that would end anonymous shell companies
There are many reasons why we should ban the practice of anonymous shell companies -- companies formed with no way of knowing who is in charge.
But here’s one of the most compelling: They’re being used to shield illegal opioid dealers.
Anonymous shell companies help drug cartels and opioid trafficking. Help put a stop to this dangerous practice. -
Tell Your Senator: Stop The Tax Reform Bill
The Paradise Papers are more evidence that the tax plan proposed by the Trump administration and Congressional leaders will make our loophole-ridden tax code worse. This poor excuse for reform would allow multinational corporations to avoid taxes by stashing their wealth in offshore tax havens -- leaving the rest of us to make up the difference on tax day.
We need to stop this tax proposal in its tracks. Help us by taking action today. -
Help keep Wall Street in check
After an agency called the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau came out with a new rule to make the banks and credit card companies play fair, Congress voted to block the rule.
-
Tax breaks for hiding money in the Cayman Islands?
The Trump Administration and Congressional Leaders’ plans for reworking taxes make the current loophole-ridden tax code worse. It would allow multinational corporations to avoid taxes because they exist outside of the U.S. on paper.
This means that businesses on Main Street will pay higher tax rates than large corporations, making offshore tax dodgers the biggest winners with this new proposal.
We need to stop this tax proposal in its tracks. Help us by taking action today.
