Add your name: Tell regulators we need strong protections from surprise medical bills

Secretary Becerra:

The federal No Surprises Act is Americans’ best defense against unfair surprise medical bills -- but it’s up to your agency to set strong rules to enforce that new law.

One in 5 Americans who visit an emergency room or have surgery get stuck with a surprise medical bill -- even if they made sure to go to a hospital in their insurance network. These surprise bills can amount to hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Americans pay enough for health care already. We shouldn't be burdened with out-of-network charges we can't avoid. And to keep costs down for everyone, payments to providers shouldn’t be inflated -- rather, they should be based only on local average in-network rates. I urge you to ensure federal regulators close loopholes in the No Surprises Act and make sure Americans are fully protected from surprise medical bills.
